Abe Thompson was a four-year letter winner and starter on the Woodson boys’ soccer team. In 2000, Abe was a captain of Woodson’s 2000 Virginia State Champion soccer team and was named the Gatorade Virginia High School Player of the Year and the Washington Area Soccer Association striker of the year. While a Cavalier, Abe was selected NSCAA and Parade All-American (2000), All State (2000), All-Met (1998, 1999 & 2000), and All-Region and All-District multiple years. During his time at Woodson, Abe also played on the U.S. National team and he was a member of the 1999 U17 World Championship semi-finalist team. Abe attended the University of Maryland, where he played on the 2002 ACC Championship team, multiple times was named a Hermann Trophy semifinalist (college soccer’s equivalent to the Heisman Trophy) and earned NSCAA All-American and All-ACC honors. Abe was drafted in the second round (16th overall) of the 2005 MLS draft by FC Dallas and also has played professionally with the Kansas City Wizards, Houston Dynamo and other teams.
