1986 - 1990

Doug Newstrom earned five varsity letters during his years at Woodson (three in baseball and two in basketball). Doug was a captain of Woodson’s two-time State Champion baseball team (1989 & 1990). A three-year starter as a pitcher and first baseman for the Cavaliers, Doug was selected DC/Maryland/Virginia Player of the Year (1990), All-Met twice (1989 & 1990) as well as All-Region and All-District multiple years. Doug attended Arizona State University where as a baseball player he earned multiple PAC-10 and team honors. Doug was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the seventh round of the 1993 MLB Amateur Draft and by the Baltimore Orioles in the Rule 5 draft in 1995.
